The tall, pointed lobes belong to the shield-frond crown. Full description
Cultivated plant labeled High Finger AUS, showing a developed shield-frond crown. Source: Platy & Co.
Mature · Original source ↗︎A resilient, beginner-friendly veitchii selection once established. Water thoroughly when the moss or bark is mostly dry, then let excess water drain. Growth can be slow; the tall, finger-like shield crown becomes more pronounced as the plant matures.
Start with bright indirect daylight, such as a bright window with strong sun softened by a sheer curtain. It can tolerate direct sun, but increase exposure gradually rather than moving a shaded plant straight into full sun.
Keep the silvery hairs on the fronds intact: avoid rubbing the leaves or hitting them with a strong water jet.
An upright plant with a pronounced, pointed crown as the shield fronds mature.
Mature shield fronds develop elongated, upward-pointing lobes that form a tall, finger-like crown.
Haruhana describes the fertile fronds as rigid and upright.
The tall, pointed lobes belong to the shield-frond crown. Haruhana’s nursery account describes this crown becoming more pronounced as the shield fronds mature.

Reported originUnder review
High Finger is a named horticultural selection of Platycerium veitchii. Taiwanese horticultural author 黃仕傑 documented the name High Finger alongside 高手指 in 2023. A breeding account submitted by Thai grower Wanna Pinijpaitoon and published by Thailand’s Department of Agriculture records High Finger AUS as material used with Rydeen in a spore-sowing project begun in 2017. That account concerns High Finger AUS specifically.

These are spore-grown offspring rather than divisions of an authenticated source clone. Preserve more specific labels such as High Finger AUS, JP, Wide Leaf, or Special High when documenting individual plants; these labels do not by themselves establish identical clone identity.
