Care
Care difficulty: IntermediateKeeping OMG compact takes closer attention to light and moisture. Let the moss approach dryness before watering thoroughly, then drain well. Its slow growth is normal; check the moss rather than copying a larger willinckii’s watering schedule.
Give it steady, bright filtered light to support compact new fronds, such as a bright window with strong sun softened by a sheer curtain. Use a grow light if the room is dim. Keep air moving gently around the dense crown, without a strong fan blowing directly onto the fronds.
In hot weather, choose a shaded, well-ventilated spot that does not trap heat. Move outdoor plants indoors before nights fall below about 10°C (50°F), and keep them away from cold window drafts.
Support the plant when moving or remounting it; the densely branched fronds can snap if caught or pressed. Avoid rubbing off their pale hairs.
Description
An extremely compact, slow-growing dwarf P. willinckii selection. Mature cultivated plants build a dense, balanced fan or low coral-like silhouette from closely spaced, short fertile fronds rather than the long, pendulous antlers typical of many ordinary willinckii. Overall size, symmetry, color, and branching vary with age and culture, and spore-grown offspring may depart substantially from the named mother form.
